At St Botolph’s we strive to ensure that all pupils feel welcome, safe, valued and comfortable, no matter their needs. We focus on inclusive practice and removing barriers to learning, aiming to make sure that every child is given the correct provision to help achieve their full potential.
SEND is explained in the following way in the SEND Code of Practice 2015: “High quality teaching that is differentiated and personalised will meet the individual needs of the majority of children and young people. Some children and young people need educational provision that is additional to or different from this. This is special educational provision under Section 21 of the Children and Families Act 2014. Schools and colleges must use their best endeavours to ensure that such provision is made for those who need it. Special educational provision is underpinned by high quality teaching and is compromised by anything less.”
At St Botolph’s, we work within the guidance set out in the Code of Practice 2015. Every pupil is seen as having individual needs and the school strives to ensure that everyone feels equally valued within the school community. We aim to identify SEND needs promptly and the school works with various external agencies to ensure that we can fully understand and support pupils needs. In order to achieve the best results for our SEND pupils, it is vital that there is efficient and effective collaboration between education, health and social care services to provide support.
At St Botolph’s, we have a team of staff who cover a range of support and interventions to meet all 4 areas of need:
- Social, Emotional and Mental Health
- Cognition and Learning
- Communication and Interaction
- Sensory and/or Physical needs
In order for our pupils to make the best sustained progress, we feel that it is most effective when we:
- have high ambitions and set stretching targets for them
- track their progress towards these goals
- keep under review the additional or different provision that is made for them
- work closely with the parents of our SEND pupils in order to make sure that their views, wishes and feelings are considered and acted upon.
Ultimately, we aim to facilitate the development of the child or young person and to help them achieve the best possible educational and other outcomes, preparing them effectively for adulthood.
