Handwriting

Our Intent

At St Botolph’s, we strive to ensure that all of our children, regardless of their starting point, have the ability to communicate their thoughts and ideas effectively and efficiently. Handwriting is a skill which must be learned in order for children to produce a style that is legible and comfortable. With our high expectations in mind, we aim that all of the children take pride in the presentation of their work and within this policy, we have aims and strategies to develop confidence, accuracy and fluency in handwriting.

The Teaching of Handwriting

At St Botolph’s, we have adapted the cursive style of handwriting in which children are taught to write letters joined together in a flowing manner, for the purpose of making writing faster and more fluent. We are very proud of our pupil’s handwriting and take particular care in our handwriting style. We use Letter-join’s on-line handwriting resource as the basis of our handwriting policy as it covers all the requirements of the National Curriculum.
