Year 1

Welcome to Year One!

We can't believe it is the last term of Year One already! We are looking forward to everything we have to enjoy this term. Please scroll down to the 'Curriculum Newsletters' tab to find out more about our learning during the Summer Term.

 

Learning in Year One

 

Below is some information that you may find useful. We will try our very best to update this website on a regular basis. In addition to this, we will list any 'dates for your diaries'.

Useful Information

PE Days: Tuesday - 2 sessions will be taught on this day. PE bags will be sent home weekly to be washed. Please ensure that your child's PE kit is in school ready for the PE session on a Tuesday. 

Reading Books: Reading diaries should be in school every day. Please ensure that you sign the reading record every time your child reads. They may not be able to change their book if their reading record is not signed. Our 'shared books' will be changed on a Friday. Read, Write Inc 'Book Bag Books' will be changed on a regular basis. There have been a few changes with our reading systems that have been noted in your child's reading diary.

Homework in Year One

On a weekly basis, we expect the children to complete the following activities:

 

  • Seesaw - A piece of homework will be set each week on a Friday which is due to be completed by the following Thursday. This will be based around our learning that week.
  • Reading – Daily for 10 minutes.
  • Knowledge Organiser – To learn the information given for the term and be able to answer questions from it (sent via Seesaw).

 

Term Six

This term, our English learning is based around the theme 'Moon Landing'. We will be focusing on non-fiction texts about the 1969 Moon Landing and the story 'Look Up!'

Below are some of our other learning themes and key questions:

  • Maths: Time, Mass, Money, Volume and Capacity, Space
  • History: Neil Armstrong and Mae Jemison: Why were their achievements important?
  • Geography: Local Area
  • Art: Printing
  • RE: Places of Worship
  • D&T: Structures
  • Music: How can you use your imagination when listening to and creating music?
  • PE: Yoga and Striking/Fielding
  • Computing: Programming
  • PSHE/RSE: Relationships: Friendship, families and people who care for me

5th June - Back to school

30th June - Move up morning 

30th June - PTFA Summer Fayre

7th July - KS1 Sports Day in the afternoon (weather permitting)

21st July - Last day of term
