St Botolph’s School Council

Pupils at St Botolph’s know that this is their school and their thoughts and ideas matter.  Therefore, as a school, we are proud to have pupil representatives from each class that take an active role in the School Council.  The council is a democratically elected group of pupils who represent their class.

Our aim is for the School Council to:

  • Make positive changes in our school and community.
  • Give pupils the opportunity to let adults know their feelings and opinions about things that affect them.
  • Allow members to have a say in decisions and to play an active role in making their school a better place for all.

Our aim is to give all pupils a voice and involve everyone in decisions about our school which affect them.  Through their class representatives, all pupils have an opportunity to raise issues and share ideas that are then taken back to school council meetings.  This ensures that as many pupil voices are heard as possible.

The Role of the School Councillors

The role of the School Councillors is to:

  • Listen to the views of their class and represent these ideas and views during school council meetings.
  • Feedback key issues from these meetings to their class.

Who makes up our School Council?

Each class from Year 1 to Year 6 has two members who have been elected by their peers to represent them.    These make up the 24 councillors across the school.  Not only this, but EYFS still have the opportunity to have their voices heard through discussions with their teachers about the important issues.  We ensure these ideas are discussed, along with each class’s, at every meeting.

What have we done so far?

We asked what extra-curricular activities would you like to attend?

Members said they thought the school should have more clubs at lunch and after school for everyone to attend.  They asked their class for ideas and the most popular clubs were discussed at the meeting.  The school council would like to share these ideas with staff and look forward to seeing some of these on offer soon

What individual and whole class rewards would you like to see in school?

The school is looking at their learning behaviour policy and wanted to take ideas from all pupils.  There were lots of positive ideas discussed.  These have been shared with Mrs Wilson and we are looking forward to seeing them in action.  We especially like the new class rewards of extra play time and trips to the park.  For individuals we are pleased to see our idea of certificate in celebration assembly.

Coming Up….

Watch this space for more ideas!

Don’t forget to speak to your council representative or write in your class book if you have a great idea for our council.
