Maths

Hi there,

To support your child’s learning during school closures, we’re giving you an online version of your child’s maths textbook and workbook called Parent Guides.

You can expect to receive an email from Maths — No Problem! inviting you to create a password and login for your new MNP Hub account. You’ll also have an option to receive further ongoing support via email.

Once you’re logged in, you’ll be able to access maths content for your child’s year group, along with help guides and lesson support.

I hope this will ease the transition to school from home and if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

SPAG year 5 term 5

Hello and welcome to the

Year 5 class page!

The Year 5 team have very much enjoyed working with your child so far this year and we have more exciting opportunities planned.

This term we will be learning all about 'extreme expeditions' to space! We will be exploring poetry, non-fiction texts and biographies in English which will tie in with our topic learning. We will be visiting the National Space Centre on Thursday 16th January which will be great fun. In DT we will be making some pneumatic systems and designing our own star catcher.

Below is some information that you find useful.

Watch this page to see what we're doing each week!

Useful Information for parents

Homework

This term, we will send out a letter detailing the whole term's homework. We ask that you support your child to return homework by the due dates specified in the letter. Homework will consist of Maths and English tasks relating to learning in class. Every other week, we will set Times Tables Rockstars tasks. Don't worry if you don't have access to this at home because there will be opportunity for your child to complete this at school if necessary.

You can find a copy of the homework letter in the 'Documents' section below.

In addition to formal homework, we ask that you continue to listen to your child read on a regular basis and that you discuss what they have read with them. This will help enormously when they come to quizzing at school.

Spellings in the form of ‘Fridge Words’ will also be sent home and your child is encouraged to learn these over the week. These spellings are taken from the Year 5-6 word lists which are relevant to the focus of lessons that week.

We would also like your child to continue learning their times tables. A letter will be sent home explaining the process and can be found below for your reference.

PE

This term 5B will be swimming on Tuesday afternoons.

5A will be doing gymnastics.

Both classes will be doing outdoor PE on Thursday afternoons-Orienteering.

Trainers rather than plimsolls are advisable as we will be on the school field whenever possible and this can get muddy.

It may be worthwhile to leave the kit at school at all times. We will make sure that it comes home at the end of term for washing or sooner if it gets particularly muddy!
