Learning in Year One

 

Below is some information that you may find useful. We will try our very best to update this website on a regular basis. In addition to this, we will list any 'dates for your diaries'.

 

The Year One Team

Useful Information

PE Days: Monday - 2 sessions will be taught on this day. PE bags will be sent home weekly to be washed. Please ensure that your child's PE kit is in school ready for the PE session on a Monday. Please ensure every piece of the PE kit is named.

Reading Books: Reading diaries should be in school every day. Please ensure that you sign the reading record every time your child reads. They may not be able to change their book if their reading record is not signed. Our 'shared books' will be changed on a Friday. Read, Write Inc 'Book Bag Books' will be changed on a regular basis. There is an information sheets about the Read, Write Inc books stuck in the front of your child’s reading diary.

Homework in Year One

On a weekly basis, we expect the children to complete the following activities:

 

  • Reading – Daily for 10 minutes.
  • Numbots Login and play at least twice a week for 5 minutes.
  • Knowledge Organiser – To learn the information given for the term and be able to answer questions from it (sent via Seesaw).

 

 

 

 

 

Term Three

 

This term, our English theme is based on the Hungry Caterpillar.

Below are some of our other learning themes and key questions:

 

  • Maths: Adding and subtracting to 20. Shape and patterns
  • History: Mary Seacole and Edith Cavell
  • Geography: Countries in the United Kingdom
  • Art: Colour mixing and learning about Wassily Kandinsky
  • RE: How Muslims strive to live their loves through the feeling on 'oneness and harmony.'
  • Music: Charanga - developing a melody using glockenspiels
  • PE: Ball skills and team-building skills
  • Computing: Beebots
